The East Midlands region is experiencing a boost in business opportunities thanks to the recent opening of a new rail freight terminal at East Midlands Gateway. The terminal, operated by Maritime Intermodal, connects the area to major UK ports and is already providing major companies with improved logistics and transportation options. At full capacity, the terminal is capable of handling up to sixteen 775 meter-long freight trains daily, as well as providing storage for more than 50,000 pallets of cargo.

The new terminal is situated at SEGRO Logistics Park East Midlands Gateway, a 700-acre development that has planning consent for up to six million square feet of warehousing and logistics accommodation. The development is expected to create more than 7,000 jobs and is already home to major companies such as Amazon. In the near future, Nestle, Shop Direct and Games Workshop are also set to start operating from the site.

This new rail freight service is expected to open up a new intermodal market for the industry, increasing productivity and removing truck miles from the Midlands’ major routes. The growth in the rail sector is a testament to the commitment to meeting customer needs.
